Veronica Day
Chair

Veronica is a former Team USA skeleton athlete and currently works for the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee. After a 9 year career that included a National Push Championship and North American Cup overall championships, she hung up her brush spikes in 2019 to focus on new endeavors. Since retiring from professional athletics, she has been involved in a variety of fundraising events and organizations focusing on girls empowerment through sport, including a 40 mile run through the Serengeti for girls education in Tanzania.

Kate Griffin
Vice Chair

Kate Griffin is an outstanding athlete who attended CSS throughout the entirety of her high school career. She was a five-sport athlete during her time, participating in cross country, basketball, tennis, golf, and soccer. Aside from sports, she took part in theater, NHS, several clubs, as well as volunteering. Kate is currently a sophomore who is continuing her education at Denison University. She is a hard-working, kind member of this organization who is looking forward to sharing her skills to better others in a variety of ways. ​

Paige Richter​
​​Treasurer

Paige Richter is in her sophomore year at Brown University and recently graduated as Coronado High School’s 2020 valedictorian. She is currently undecided on her major, but she will be a member of the Bear’s Division I gymnastics team. Paige has been doing gymnastics since she was three years old. She has been a level 10 gymnast for the last four years, practicing around 30 hours a week. Outside of gymnastics, Paige was a member of the National Honor Society and the French National Honor Society, where she was secretary. Through athletics, Paige has learned many invaluable lessons that have positively influenced her life, and she is so excited to bring what she has learned and her love of sports to this organization.

Mia Chavez
Secretary

Mia Chavez is a senior at the Colorado Spring School. She has played basketball since she was in elementary school with the club team the Crusaders. She came to CSS her Freshman year and has been an asset on the basketball volleyball, and tennis courts, as well as the soccer field. Recently, she led her school team to a record-breaking season as the point guard. Mia is extremely athletic as well as kind, humble, and hard working. Her passion for the game of basketball and helping others improve motivates her to be a driving force in this organization.

Caleb Strickland
​Board Member

​Caleb Strickland began playing basketball in Indiana at the age of two and instantly fell in love with the game. In high school, he advanced to the final four in the Indiana State tournament while setting a school record for wins in a season. Strickland competed at the collegiate level for Indiana University Southeast where he won two conference championships and appeared in two national tournaments. Since graduation, he has been working as an engineer in the Microelectronics industry while finding time to stay involved with the sport he loves. Teaching young people to maximize their potential both on and off the court is his true passion. As an assistant coach for CSS, Caleb is excited to work in the same community where his daughter Adelaide attends school.

Dennis Katungye
Board Member

​Dennis Katungye is a teacher at Maryhill High School where he is also the International Relations Officer (IRO) and the girls' basketball coach for the last 16 years. His passions include travel, sports, and intercultural exchange.

Sasha Malone
​Board Member & Graphic Design Manager

Sasha Malone is a senior at the Colorado Springs School. She enjoys playing sports year-round whether it is volleyball, basketball, or soccer. Some of her favorite activities include serving back to her community in various forms of community-service as well as graphic design in all forms. When it comes to service, she loves to spend time working with children, especially at her synagogue where she teaches. Sasha is very excited to work with and inspire the girls in Uganda!

Cameron Richter
Board Member

Cameron Richter is a junior who recently transferred from The Colorado Springs School to Saint Mary's High School. She started playing basketball in third grade and currently plays for the Saint Mary's Pirates and her club team Pluto. Last year she was also planning on playing soccer for the Kodiaks. This year, Cameron is taking on the new challenge of running cross country for the Pirates. Cameron is very athletic and basically eats, sleeps, and breathes basketball. She is eager to take part in this program because of her love and devotion to the game and the opportunity share it with girls all around the world. Having played basketball for most of her life, Cameron is so excited to share her arsenal of skills! ​

Eric Richter, MD
Board Member

​Eric Richter has conducted seven surgical workshops in Uganda lasting two weeks each through an organization called IVUmed. Eric has learned essential lessons, along with the values of IVUmed whereby they work closely with host nation partners. The primary mission is teaching and mentorship rather than simply doing cases. As a result, there is proven sustained benefit to the communities  served. Eric has been able to develop many close relationships and friends among his Ugandan colleagues. These experiences can be readily translated and implemented into conducting basketball camps for and alongside our Ugandan friends and partners.

Anna Griffin
​Board Member

Anna Griffin is a class of 2020 graduate from Coronado High School. She will be attending Colorado State University in the fall to study biomedical sciences. In high school, Anna spent her time playing volleyball and tennis. Her 2019 volleyball season wrapped up by finishing third at state. When she isn’t playing sports, Anna can be found volunteering. She was apart of the National Honor Society and the National Charity Leauge and spends her time volunteering at the local hospital. Anna is excited to share her passion for sports and grateful for the opportunity to be a member of an inspiring organization. ​

Josephine Howery

Amara Mbionwu
​​​Board Member

Josephine is a sophomore at Colorado School of Mines and a recent graduate of St. Mary's High School. She has been playing basketball since second grade. In high school, Josephine was two time Colorado player of the year and led her team to two state titles. She is looking forward for the opportunity to be playing at the collegiate level and work towards a degree in biomechanical engineering. Sports and particularly basketball have given and taught her so much such as setting goals and working tirelessly towards them, meeting some of her closest friends, confidence, teamwork and leadership skills. She is excited to give back and teach other girls the game she loves so much. 
Born in Washington DC and a Maryland native, she's been an athlete almost her whole life. She played basketball in middle and high school, as well as in college at Columbia University. While doing her masters at Adelphi University, Amara discovered the sport of netball and currently play for the USA Netball team. Along with being an athlete, Amara's currently an oral surgeon assistant, basketball coach, TrueSport Ambassador, dog mom, and assistant kettlebell instructor. Her goal within the next few months is to apply to dental school, with the hopes of becoming an oral and maxillofacial radiologist.
